GUEBERT: North Battleford is back, resurgence of the Vikings

Apete Tuiloma is the complete package.

The North Battleford Vikings were once a storied program under coach Don Hodgins as Saskatchewan provincial champions in 1976, 1980, 1984, 1987, 1990, and 1995. It has been over two decades of relative obscurity for the Vikings as they struggled to compete in Saskatoon High School Football.

In 2010, Mike Humenny returned to his alma mater as a teacher and a coach following a 2009 4A provincial title with the Saskatoon Aden Bowman Bears and a 2010 Canada Cup Gold Medal with Team Saskatchewan. The former Viking OL, who went on to have an excellent 5-year career with the Saskatoon Hilltops, returned to North Battleford with a passion for football and a desire to restore his hometown’s pride in the game.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
