Grenadiers wiped out by Riders

It was a tough week for the Limestone District Grenadiers, having dropped all three games in their tripleheader against Ottawa Myers Riders on Sunday, July 14 in the Ontario Varsity Football League.

With the loss against the Riders, it was the varsity Gmenā€™s second loss of the season. Their first loss came just last week when they fell short by a touchdown against the Metro Toronto Wildcats (27-21).

Although the majority of the defensive line had a hand on the ball – safety Matt Pendergast led the defensive line with nine solo tackles.

Dylan Fisher filled the pocket for the Grenadiers on Sunday. He completed the day 13-of-24 for a total of 232-yards. Fisher walked away with three more touchdown passes under his belt. Nate Kellar was on the receiving end of an 82-yard and 10-yard passes. Dylan Bell ā€“ who was on the injured list since opening day after breaking his collar bone ā€“ caught a 22-yard pass in to the end zone. Fisher ended the day with two interceptions.

Konner Burtenshaw had the forth touchdown for the varsity squad.

Terrance Edgley on Special Teams punted the ball three times for 144-yards ā€“ his longest sixty-nine. Michael Bashall kicked four converts.

The varsity Grenadiers found themselves on the wrong side of the points board. The Riders ā€“ who had touchdowns from ten different players ā€“ ran up the score. Ending the day 76-28.

Although with a much closer score, the junior squad didnā€™t fair too well either. The junior Gmen were suffered a loss of 48-38.

This coming Sunday, the senior Grenadiers will match-up against the Cornwall Wildcats for their final game of the regular season. Game time is set for 3:30pm at Loyalist Collegiate & Vocational Institute.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
