Golden Hawks land Burlington recruit

Burlington offensive lineman becomes first recruit to commit to OUA team’s 2015 class.

Yesterday, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks landed their first recruit for the team’s 2015 class.

The team announced the commitment of JD Richardson.  The 6’3, 270 pound offensive lineman/long snapper from Burlington, Ontario will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

“We really like JD for his athleticism,” commented Golden Hawks Recruiting and Special Teams Coordinator Dwayne Cameron.  “He possesses extremely good footwork and fundamentals.”

“As ‎good a player as he is, he is an equally dedicated student, a quality individual and we are drawn to that. He will study Business here. It’s a win-win for the entire Laurier community. Offensive Line Coach Irv Daymond is very excited for the opportunity to work with this young man.”

Richardson is currently in his final season with Assumption Crusaders of the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association (HSSAA). He has also previously suited up for the Burlington Stampeders of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

The offensive lineman/long snapper has won numerous championship titles with teams he has played for throughout his gridiron career. In 2013, he was the recipient of the Ontario Football Association (OFA) Athletic Honour Award.

In addition to both the offensive lineman and long snapper positions, the Ontario standout excelled playing on the defensive line during his time with the Crusaders.

For his part, Richardson decided upon the Waterloo, Ontario campus due to the strengths of both the academic and football programs.

“I like the direction the team is going under Coach [Michael] Faulds and the coaching staff,” explained Richardson of his commitment.  “The coaching staff, the team and the smaller school atmosphere all made me feel at home.”

“Academically Laurier has one of the beat business schools with a great co-op program.  I feel I can achieve personal growth on and off the field.”
