Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week #4: Burris, Burnett, Palardy, Fantuz (video)

TORONTO – Henry Burris, Joe Burnett, Justin Palardy and Andy Fantuz were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week Four of the 2012 Canadian Football League Season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Henry Burris

QB – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week Four. Burris completed 27 of 30 passes and threw for 360 yards and four touchdowns. Burris tied Jason Maas for the fifth best single-game mark in completion percentage (90%) in CFL history and for the highest completion percentage in history with at least 30 attempts.

Burris’ final touchdown pass of the night was his longest as he completed a 26-yard pass to Andy Fantuz at 13:47 of the fourth quarter. The 39-24 win over the Montreal Alouettes moved the Ticats into a three-way tie for first place in the tight East Division.

Joe Burnett

CB/KR – Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos 27 @ BC Lions 14

Edmonton Eskimos cornerback/kick returner Joe Burnett was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week Four. In addition to registering three tackles in the game, Burnett intercepted BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay twice, including a 108-yard return for a touchdown at 6:05 of the fourth quarter. Burnett was a key contributor as the Eskimos moved into a tie for first place in the West Division with a 27-14 win over the BC Lions on Friday night.

Justin Palardy

K – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 22 @ Toronto Argonauts 25

Winnipeg Blue Bombers kicker Justin Palardy was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week Four. Palardy turned in an impressive performance on Wednesday night at Rogers Centre as he was a perfect five-for-five on field goal attempts and added an extra point as well. Palardy accounted for 16 of the Bombers 22 points in the 25-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Andy Fantuz

WR – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Montreal Alouettes 24 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 39

Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Andy Fantuz was named the top Canadian Player of the Week for Week Four. The Chatham, Ontario native registered a game-high 135 yards and one touchdown on eight receptions in the Ticats 39-24 win over the Montreal Alouettes. His fourth quarter touchdown was crucial as the Ticats needed a score to stop the Montreal Alouettes’ growing second half momentum.
