Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week 2012 Canadian Football League – Division Final

 

 

TORONTO – Chad Owens, Marcus Ball, Paul McCallum and Jon Cornish were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Division Final Players of the Week, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Chad Owens

SB – Toronto Argonauts

Toronto Argonauts 27 @ Montreal Alouettes 20

Toronto Argonauts slotback Chad Owens was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the Eastern Division Final. Owens registered a team playoff record 207 yards on 11 receptions in the Argonauts’ 27-20 win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Owens’ crucial 70-yard reception early in the third quarter allowed the Argos to score on the same drive and take the momentum for the second half on Sunday afternoon at Olympic Stadium. Owens’ impressive numbers helped the Argos become the Eastern Division Champions and secure a spot in the 100th Grey Cup.

 

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week

Marcus Ball

LB – Toronto Argonauts

Toronto Argonauts 27 @ Montreal Alouettes 20

Toronto Argonauts linebacker Marcus Ball was named the Defensive Player of the Week in the Eastern Division Final. Ball compiled five tackles and two interceptions in the Argonauts’ 27-20 win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Ball intercepted two Anthony Calvillo passes in the second half that were key in not allowing the Alouettes to make a late comeback. For his efforts in the Eastern Final, Ball earned his first 2012 Player of the Week Award.

 

Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Paul McCallum

K – BC Lions

Calgary Stampeders 34 @ BC Lions 29

BC Lions kicker Paul McCallum was named the Special Teams Player of the Week in the Western Division Final. McCallum was a perfect five for five on field goal attempts and converted two of two extra points in the Lions’ 34-29 loss to the Calgary Stampeders.

A steady McCallum was responsible for 17 of his team’s 29 points and earned his first 2012 Player of the Week award for his efforts.

Jon Cornish

RB – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 34 @ BC Lions 29

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Canadian Player of the Week in the Western Division Final. The New Westminster, BC native ran for a game high 112 yards on 18 carries and also added 42 yards on two receptions in the Stampeders’ 34-29 win over the BC Lions.

Cornish ran the ball effectively all game and racked up 66 yards in the first half to help his team beat the stingy BC Lions and secure a matchup against the Toronto Argonauts in the 100th Grey Cup.
