Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week #2: Whitaker, Bighill, Taylor, Harris

TORONTO — Brandon Whitaker, Adam Bighill, Larry Taylor and Andrew Harris were named the Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week for week two of the 2012 Canadian Football League Season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Brandon Whitaker

RB – Montreal Alouettes

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 30 @ Montreal Alouettes 41

Montreal Alouettes running back Brandon Whitaker has been named the Offensive Player of the Week for week two of the 2012 season. Whitaker was a force in the Alouettes 41-30 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, rushing for 98 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries and 137 yards and two touchdowns on 11 receptions.

Whitaker’s first touchdown of the evening came off a 21-yard pass from Anthony Calvillo as the first quarter ended. The pair hooked up again in the fourth quarter as Calvillo found Whitaker on a 14-yard pass for the score. Whitaker then capped off his night with an 11-yard run for the touchdown as he was instrumental in helping the Als reach the .500 mark in this young season.

Adam Bighill

LB – B.C Lions

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 36 @ B.C Lions 39

B.C Lions linebacker Adam Bighill has been named the Defensive Player of the Week for week 2 in the Lions 39-36 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Bighill was solid as he registered nine tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in the close game at B.C Place Stadium.

Larry Taylor

R – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 36 @ Toronto Argonauts 39

Calgary Stampeders kick returner Larry Taylor has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week for week 2 as he ran for a franchise record 441 combined yards. Taylor had one reception for 13 yards, eight kick returns for 222 yards, two punt returns for 70 yards and one missed field goal return for a 125 yard touchdown in the 39-36 loss to the Toronto Argonauts. Taylor’s 441 all purpose yards is second best in CFL history behind Winnipeg Blue Bombers Albert Johnson III’s 474-yard performance in 2000.

Andrew Harris

RB – Andrew Harris

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 36 @ B.C Lions 39

Bighill was not the only Lion to be recognized for his efforts, as the Top Canadian for week one was B.C Lions running back Andrew Harris. The Manitoba native ran for 147 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. Harris also added six yards on two receptions in the 39-36 week two win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
