Canadian Football League Week #19

TORONTO – Henry Burris, J.C Sherritt, Swayze Waters and Henoc Muamba were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 19, the Canadian Football League announced today.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Henry Burris

QB – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 40 @ Toronto Argonauts 43

Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 19. Burris completed 37 of 55 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns; he also added 19 yards on four carries in the Ticats’ 43-40 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Burris completed crucial touchdown passes to Avon Cobourne and Chris Williams less than two minutes apart late in the fourth quarter to give his team a chance to win when the game seemed out of reach. For his solid play and impressive numbers, Burris claimed his fourth 2012 Player of the Week award.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week

J.C Sherritt

LB – Edmonton Eskimos

Calgary Stampeders 30 @ Edmonton Eskimos 27

Edmonton Eskimos linebacker J.C Sherritt was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 19. Sherritt compiled 11 tackles and one sack in the Eskimos’ 30-27 loss to the Calgary Stampeders. Sherritt earned his fourth 2012 Player of the Week award.

With less than a minute remaining in the game, Sherritt tackled Matt Walter and set a new CFL record for most tackles in a season with 130. His final tackle of the game moved him one past Calvin Tiggle who previously held the record with 129.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Swayze Waters

K – Toronto Argonauts

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 40 @ Toronto Argonauts 43

Toronto Argonauts kicker Swayze Waters was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 19. Waters was a perfect five for five on field goal attempts and converted four of four extra point kicks in the Argos’ 43-40 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. With the 19 points he contributed to his team’s offensive effort, Waters earned his first 2012 Player of the Week award.

Waters’ fifth field goal of the game was a 51-yard kick that secured the win for the Argos and eliminated their Eastern Division rivals from playoff contention. Waters’ final field goal came with no time remaining on the clock and got the Argos back to the .500 mark for the season.

Henoc Muamba

LB – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Montreal Alouettes 11 @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers 19

Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Henoc Muamba was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 19. The former St. Francis Xavier X-Men registered 10 tackles and one sack in the Bombers’ 19-11 win over the Montreal Alouettes.

Muamba was a force all game as he disrupted the Als offence with his solid play, earning his second 2012 Player of the Week award in the process. Muamba was key in helping the Bombers close out an era at Canad Inns Stadium on a winning note.
