Gee-Gees give “equal opportunity to earn playing time on the field” says Hamilton recruit (VIDEO)

Hamilton defensive back joins OUA team’s 2016 class.

Joel Clairmont will be calling the Nation’s Capital his future home for the next few years.

The 6’1, 190 pound defensive back from Hamilton, Ontario committed to the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Ā Clairmont will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

Among the teams Clairmont has suited up for during his career include Westmount Wildcats of the Hamilton-Wentworth Intercollegiate Athletic Association (HWIAA) and the Hamilton Hurricanes/Varisity Ti-Cats of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

After his commitment, the defensive back released the following statement regarding his decision to commit to the Gee-Gees:

Joel Clairmont commitment 1

“I chose to commit to Ottawa instead of other schools closer to my hometown was because it felt like home while I was up there for the visit; the city is beautiful, as well as the UOttawa campus is spectacular in the sense that everything is close and pretty much on the same street.”

“The football team and atmosphere up there was like no other team that I visited because they welcomed me with open arms and wanted me to make a decision that would best benefit me.”

“Furthermore, Head Coach Jamie Barresi has tons of coaches experience in both the NCAA and the CFL and it will be nice to see how he uses his previous coaching tactics to bring to our up and coming Gee-Gees.”

“Also we hired a new defensive coach from the Ottawa redblacks and that really changed my mindset and was a big selling factor for me to commit to Ottawa because he has no past experience with the team and with the players in my position so it will give everyone an equal opportunity to earn their playing time on the field.”
