Fratmen’s season ends in Jostens Cup blowout

The Vancouver Island Raiders of the BCFC defeated the Windsor AKO Fratmen of the OFC 50-3 in the Jostens Cup – CJFL semifinal.

The Raiders stuck first in their opening drive of the first quarter on a cold but dry game at Windsor Stadium.

Ashton Galloway scored on a 21-yard touchdown run and with a Ryan Jones convert, the Raiders were up 7-0 less than five minutes
into the game.

The Fratmen missed an opportunity for points when Anthony Malandruccolo missed wide right on a 33-yard attempt.

Windsor would have a great chance early in the second quarter when Fratmen punter/kicker Dillon Grondin recovered his own punt at the Raider 32 and the offence retook the field.

Grondin would end up finishing off what he started by booting a 37-yard field goal after two unsuccessful plays.

Two Fratmen interceptions from Jeremiah Hamilton and Joe Iatzko sandwiched around a conceded safety had the Raiders leading 9-3 at the three-minute warning of the first half.

Soon after the three-minute warning, Jones hit a 25-yard FG to put the Raiders up 12-3. The Fratmen scrimmaged from their 35 with hopes of driving the field.

On AKO QB Austin Lumley’s second straight pass, VI’s Dylan Chapdelaine caught a partially batted ball and rumbled 46 yards for the major. Jones’ PAT was good and the Raiders went up 19-3 at halftime.

The Raiders received the second half kick-off and used a few big plays to set up Alex Kutra’s one-yard plunge and would need only one play on their next offensive series as running back Andrew Ritchott took a hand-off and sprinted 55 yards for a touchdown. Two converts made the score 33-3 and the Fratmen never recovered.

Two touchdown passes by Jahmari Bennett were sandwiched around a 30-yard field goal by Jones in the second half and the Raiders
claimed the Jostens Cup with a 50-3 final score.

The Raiders now advance to the Canadian Bowl where they will play Regina Thunder, in Regina, Nov. 9.

Players of the game for offense, defense and specials teams were awarded after the game as follows:
OFFENSE: Andrew Ritchott, VI RB
DEFENSE: Dylan Chapdelaine, VI LB
SPECIAL TEAMS: Dillon Grondin, AKO P/K/LB
