Fraser named Windsor Defensive Coordinator

Windsor, ON – University of Windsor Football Head Coach Joe D’Amore is pleased to announce the hiring of Peter Fraser as the new Defensive Coordinator of the Lancer Football program.

A native of Oromocto, N.B, Fraser joins the Lancers from Acadia University where he served as the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the past seven years.

“We are extremely excited to add Coach Fraser to our staff as our new defensive coordinator. He comes to us after seven years at Acadia University where he was responsible for a number of areas, including recruiting, the defensive line, and special teams,” said D’Amore. “He has extensive knowledge of the front seven which is an area we are focused on improving. We can’t wait to get started and we look forward to getting ourselves back in the playoffs this fall.”

A graduate of the University of Ottawa, who played for the Gee Gees from 1998 to 1999, Fraser started his university coaching career as a full time associate coach, special teams coordinator, defensive line coach, recruiting and video coordinator with the McGill Redmen back in 2007.

“We look forward to Peter joining the Lancers coaching staff and seeing the positive impact of his addition to the team,” said Mike Havey, Director of Athletics at the University of Windsor.

In 2009, Fraser joined the Axemen in a role as an assistant head coach, special team’s coordinator, defensive line coach and video & recruiting coordinator, where he won two AUS championships in 2011 and 2012.

With the Lancers, Fraser will serve as the defensive coordinator and will also play a key role in recruiting and fundraising initiatives for the football program.

“It was a difficult decision to leave Acadia University – a school and community I have worked with for the last seven seasons and I owe a lot to head coach Jeff Cummins,” commented Fraser. “With that being said, I am extremely excited to be on board with Coach D’Amore and the University of Windsor. I look forward to this new opportunity and I cannot wait to get to work!”
