Tyler Stewart has been playing a combination of rep and house league football for five years now, and says that every experience has helped him become a better player and pushed him to be competitive.
“Being a football player has taught me to work well with people and respect everyone involved in the program,” said Tyler.
The WR/DB got his gridiron start with the Mississauga Football League in 2012, where he continued to play until 2015. Tyler started playing in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) with the Mississauga Warriors, where he has been for two years. He also competed in the Pop Warner Bowl with Team Canada in 2015.
Currently, Tyler attends and plays with Clarkson Football North. Moreover, the Warrior is a prospect challenge veteran as he also participated in 2015 and 2016.
Tyler’s goals for this year’s Fox 40 Prospect Challenge is to make the top 100 and be able to highlight his abilities to help get a win for his team this year.
During the offseason, he used to spend his time playing full contact indoor football to stay on top of his game, but now that he is a part of Football North he has an extensive off season program that helps with his weight training and keeping up on school work.
On the field, his biggest role model is Larry Jusdanis because he has so much passion for the sport, and he has always pushed and encouraged Tyler to do well. “Football has a big community and it just seems [like] Larry is a part of everything,” commented Tyler. “He honestly cares so much for all his players and I was honoured to be invited to his Football North Program.”
The Warrior loves the game and the entire structure of the sport. “There is so much of this sport that people who don’t play don’t see,” added Tyler. “The coaches, players, parents and staff put so much effort into this to keep us safe and push us to our best potential.”
