Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): QB/REC Araya loves having the football in his hands

For quarterback and receiver, Tate Ferreyro Araya, Kurt Warner grabbed his attention from the very start. “He was the guy I always watched when I first started watching. He helped me fall in love with the game and learn a lot from it too,” he says.

After eleven years of playing, Araya’s passion for the game started when he friend showed him how to throw a ball in pre-school. Since then, he has loved throwing and catching the ball, “just having it in my hands” he says.

His grade 11 stats while playing for Pitt Meadows Secondary, was 300+ yards passing,  7 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and 9 sacks. He pressured the quarterback 7 times as well while playing defensive end. These numbers are fun for Araya as he says, “I developed to love the stats to as I enjoy working with numbers.”

His goal for the CFCFPC is to make the travel team and get his name out there. He also wants to impress the schools that watch the game in Ottawa. But that’s not all he has his sights set on.

“Being on the CFC Top 100 is definitely my co-main goal in Grade 12, along with winning another provincial title” is another goal of this young athlete.

In order to chase those goals, he is going to prepare in the off-season. “I have started to do heavier weight training and will try to add some weight onto my frame,” says Araya. “Also, I will gain some speed and explosiveness with this training as I am working out with a track and field coach.”

For a player that was sidelined in grade 10 with a kidney and vertebrae injury, he went on to win the Tier 2, AA BC provincials with Pitt Meadows and is hungry for more.
