Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): Ly has no words for his love of football

It’s not every day that you can’t put into words exactly how you feel about something. For Steven Ly, he says, “I love football for a reason I can’t seem to explain, it’s a feeling that words wouldn’t justify the feeling.”

The linebacker, centre, and, soon to be, runningback, has only been playing for one year now. In that year, though, playing for the Spectrum Thunder, he has 1 sack, 4 broken up passes, and has won the JV Rookie of the Year award.

His experience to date has been “amazing” he says, “from the moment I put on the helmet, I fell in love. I’ve had the best time of my life playing football from doing up-downs at practice to racing across the field to make a tackle, it’s been the best thing that I’ve ever done.”

For the CFCFPC, Ly is looking to expand his skill set and to become the best he can with the help of the coaches.

My goal is to be the best with their help, I wanna be able to move on to phase 3 and win.”

But that is not where his goals stop. “I want to be able to participate in it till I graduate high school so my name can be on the top of the list, to be able to be recruited by a NCAA college,” he explains.

Both JJ Watt and Ray Lewis are two idols that he uses to motivate him to achieve his goals mentioned above. “Both of them train to be the best, they leave everything they have on the field, and they lead by example,” Ly says.Ā

I hit up the gym at least twice a week, I do sprints every chance I get to become faster, I have sled and training sessions with coaches to get a better understanding,” addsĀ Ly. “I rewatch film to learn from mistakes, I play rugby to improve and to work on my tackling technique and my endurance.”

While Ly is working hard to improve his football skill and ability, football means more to him then just the training, “I love to play football for the rush, the adrenaline, for fun.”
