Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): DL Heaton has played all over the line

Having played for three years now for the Clarence Fulton Maroons, defensive lineman, Jonathan Heaton is a very versatile player. He hopes to make the CFC100 top prospects list with his skills and abilities.

On my team, I play both sides of the line as we do not have many linemen, and as such I do have plenty of experience in those positions. I am generally on the field for the entire game. The only position on the line I have not played in a game scenario is defensive end (I have played backup centre for the past two seasons).”

While he doesn’t have a football role model or team he prefers just to watch and enjoy the game. The game that he has fun playing has allowed him to enjoy the team aspect of football. He has been awarded Game MVP twice in his career and went to the provincial quarter-finals last season.

While at the CFCFPC, Heaton hope to get an opportunity to represent his province and home team while playing in Ottawa. “IĀ also believe this will be a good learning experience for me. On a lesser note Iā€™ve always wanted to see Ottawa for myself,” he says.Ā

In order to get himself ready for that and other skill camps that he attends in the off-season, he will go to his school gym every day after class for two hours. He will also play rugby, and run track. In addition, on the weekends, he goes to a downtown gym and puts in extra work with the sled that the facility has.

This versatile lineman could very well see the Nation’s capitol come the spring.
