Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): Pyle excited to show his capabilities

Ever since Ethan Pyle started playing football five years ago, it has changed his life both on and off the field.

“It taught me what true teamwork means and to give it ‘your all,” said Ethan.

In the past he also played baseball at the highest levels possible for his age in Ontario, but always loved football, and is excited to devote more time to the sport while playing with and against some of the best.

He has played in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) with the North Halton Crimson Tide, and has won a championship with the Halton Cowboys in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

Ethan also plays with his high school team in the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association (HSSAA) with the Bishop Reding Royals, but his season was cut short due to a leg injury.

“It was very hard not to be able to play, but I did enjoy trying to help on the sidelines and be with the team,” said the Royal.

More recently, Ethan won two Pop Warner International Bowls with Team Canada Florida Bound.

His goal for the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge is to show players, scouts and coaches what he is capable of.

“I have seen a lot of posts on Facebook about the different prospects and I want to [be] a part of that,” explained Ethan. “One of the first steps to making this happen is to make the [FPC] team for Halton-Peel and perform well.”

During the offseason, the Royal goes to the gym after school to help improve his body strength and stamina. He also plays rep and high school basketball to work on his cardio and footwork.

At home, he works out with his dad and brother in the backyard on different football techniques. “We use sleds, blocking bags, shields and cones to work on the drills that will help my hand-eye coordination and first steps.

His dad and brother also happen to be his role models on the field. “My dad will do anything to help me and my brother succeed,” said the Royal.

“He’ll be up front with me, if I mess up he’ll tell me, but he’ll also tell me how to fix it and help me work on it.”

Ethan’s brother, Garrison, is two years older than him and teaches him everything he needs to know about football. “After seeing what all he has earned with all of his hard work, I have decided to try harder and follow that path,” added the Royal.

Lastly, Ethan loves football because it is a game where you test your limits and push yourself like never before. “It is an amazing team sport because everyone needs to do their job,” explained Ethan, who compared it to baseball, where a single player, like a pitcher, can dominate a game.

“In football, everyone needs to do their job, or the play won’t succeed,” continued the Royal. “There is not a lot of sports like that.”

“Another reason I love football is that you get to meet people from all over the province, whether it be coaches or players.”
