Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): Jay Turnsek wreaking havoc

Jay Turnsek might be undersized, but that does not stop him for wreaking havoc on the football field.

Despite his stature 5’11, 185lbs, Turnsek started out as an outside linebacker before moving to safety – he plays both strong and free safety. β€œI started in grade nine at outside linebacker, coaches figure I would be a great fit there because of my aggressiveness and tenacity. I started learning both safety positions this year, and have had great success,” says Turnsek.

Since Turnsek is new at either safety positions, he understands that he can learn a lot during a competition like the CFCFPC. β€œMy main goal is to learn more about the safety position and become a better player,” says Turnsek.

Turnsek is incredibly confident in his abilities as a football player. β€œI plan on going for the defensive MVP award by playing my heart out and leaving it all out on the field,” says Turnsek.

And, making the CFC100 list would be an honor for him to be part of such a revered list. β€œOf course I’m aiming to be on the CFC100, it would be a great achievement to make that elite list,” says Turnsek.

To maintain his elite status on the football field, Turnsek works out as often as he can because to remain at the top, one can never be satisfied. β€œThroughout the off-season I have been lifting five-days a week, doing speed work three-days a week, and putting in any work I can n my free time. I have realized to be great at this sport you need to put in work day in and day out regardless of what time of the year it is,” says Turnsek.

Turnsek models his game after future Hall of Famer Earl Thomas III, free safety of the Seattle Seahawks. β€œMy football role model would have to be Earl Thomas III, he plays the safety position with so much aggression and energy despite being undersized. And that is kind of what I am going for,” says Turnsek.
