Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): DE Bulldog aiming for CFC100

Gurkirat Bal started playing football in the summer of 2011 with a house league in Brampton followed by a season of fall football. Since then he has been playing rep football with the Brampton Bulldogs in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL), starting with peewee in 2012 until now, his first year of varsity.

The defensive end also plays high school football in the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) with the Sandalwood Heights Sabres.

“My goals in CFCFPC is to work hard and see where that takes me and it is my goal to play in the Fox 40 Prospect game and that starts with making phase 2 tryouts,” said Gurkirat.

Being on the CFC100 top prospect list is also a goal of the Bulldog’s.

During the offseason, Gurkirat trains twice a day, once in the morning and again at night to help with his football and athletic ability.

“I am always working on my footwork with a football ladder and some cones and I go run the hill at Ching Park,” added the Bulldog.

Moreover, he also plays basketball in the offseason to help him stay in shape for football and has been playing with the Ascension Eagles for the last two years.

On the field, his biggest inspiration is the Houston Texans defensive end, JJ Watt, because he is driven by greatness, not money. “This is very rare in an athlete and JJ Watt has taught me to dream big and work hard and he always drives me to work harder at everything I do,” continued Gurkirat.

The Bulldog loves football because it has taught him so much and made him the man that he is today.

From his coaches and teammates he has learned the concept of brotherhood and truly learning from his mistakes. He also learned three of the most important words in his life: discipline, effort and finish.

“These words wont only help you in football, but they will help you in life,” said Gurkirat. “So yes, these are the reasons why I love football ‘cause this sport is what has made me what I am today.”
