Since Kyle Cruz was 12 he has always loved playing and watching football.
“The first time I put on the pads and became part of a real football team was in my freshman year high school,” said Kyle, who was playing in the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) with the St. Marguerite d’Youville Panthers.
“When I first started hitting, I did not think I would survive on the team, but I kept pushing myself not to quit,” added the Panther.
After the freshman season, he decided to make a change and work his body past its limits and develop his skills and strengths for the game.
Entering his sophomore year, Kyle had gained a significant amount of size and played as a defensive end.
“That was the year I had fell in love with the sport and decided to play for the Brampton Bulldogs [OVFL],” explained Kyle. “This past junior season had been the best year of playing football so far and I am hoping for more years to come of playing the sport.”
Last year, the Panther got a total of 17 solo tackles, 26 assist tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
“My goals regarding the CFCFPC are to play hard, make big plays, and make my teammates, family, friends and coaches proud,” commented the Panther.
As a 2018 graduate, a goal of his has always been to be on the CFC100 list.
During the offseason, Kyle is in and out of the gym working out his body to gain size and strength for upcoming seasons. He also goes out to the park and practices drills to develop his skills in the positions he plays.
On the field, his idol is Kam Chancellor of the Seattle Seahawk because he can make big plays and continues to put his body to work play after play.
“I love playing football because it gives me a satisfaction of being a winner and being part of a family with a bond so strong where we watch each other’s backs and build trust within one another,” said Kyle.
