Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (Central): Jaguar Woodard ready to be the best he can be

Josh Woodard’s football experience started three years ago in the Upper Ottawa Valley High School Athletic Association (UOVHSAA) with the St. Joseph Jaguars, and has loved everything about his experience.

“My coaches Blaine Scatcherd and Mario Panetta have taught me so much about the game and they’re one of the reasons I’m still playing this game and loving it,” said Josh. “They’ve made my experience an amazing one…”

The outside linebacker and defensive end is also glad to say that he had the opportunity to play in and win a City Championship game, as well as play in OFSAA.

As a 2018 graduate, the Jaguar hopes to find himself amongst those on the CFC100 list and it is a goal of his to be the best football player he can and prove to everyone else that he can do it.

Josh is also participating in this year’s Fox 40 Prospect Challenge and he hopes to continue to become the best player he can be and play with the best of his age group in Ontario, all while getting more experience.

During the offseason, the Jaguar spends his time in the weight room at school training, and in the summer before the season starts he does footwork at the park to get quicker and faster. Josh also trains with his dad, who helps out, as well as his best friend, Jaedan McLoughlin.

On the field, his idol is Lawrence Taylor because of his hard hits on defence.

“He wasn’t a player who cared about style, he cared more about the outcome of the play and that’s what I want to do more of,” added Josh. “Lawrence Taylor was a player that made the opposing team scared of him due to his size and not giving up till the play is dead and his insane aggression.”

The Jaguar loves football because of the thrill that comes from getting on the field and being able to just tackle or block someone.

“Also because the members on my team are my second family and I have their backs just as much as they have mine,” commented Josh.
