Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): ATH Claridge is a student-athlete through and through

Having fun while playing the sport we love is sometimes lost in the business of playing the sport. Shane Claridge says this is why Cam Newton of the NFL Carolina Panthers is a role model of his.

“Cam Newton is my favourite player of all time. He reminds us to always have fun playing the game we love.”

But that’s not the only role model the 5’8, 150lbs athlete looks up to. “[…] Deion Sanders. He changed the way DBs were viewed and changed the way the game was played. He was a “shut down” corner making opposing teams change the way they had to play.”

Playing at both defensive back and receiver, Claridge works hard at improving at his position. In the off-season, he trains with a speed coach and a personal trainer. He also works out with his teammates.

I love this sport. It inspires me to be the best I can be on and off the field. More than anything, I want to play at the next level and I am willing to push myself in every aspect of my life to get there,” he says.

While only playing since grade 8, Shane has had several great football experiences. “We have traveled down to the US for great camps and team building exercises,” he adds.

He has won numerous awards to go along with these great experiences such as; the Graham Grizzlies Most Inspiration JV 2015, Graham Grizzlies Defensive MVP JV 2015, 2014 AA Provincial Champions JV,  and the 2013 AA Presidents Cup Champions in Grade 8. He also won the Grizzlies football grade 11 Academic Award for 2016.

This student-athlete will go far with this discipline and drive.
