Fox 40 profile (#CFCFPC): DB Coulombe searching for CFC100

Andre Coulombe has playing football for five years, and started at a different club before moving to the Burlington Stampeders due to their reputation and quality of coaching.

The defensive backs favourite memory is when his junior varsity team won the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) championship this year.

He also plays with his high school team, the St. Mary Crusaders in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic Athletic Association (HWCAA).

“My high school experience has taught me to play a variety of positions on both sides of the ball,” said Andre. “It has also forced me into a leadership role as many of our players are new to football.”

The Crusader was awarded Rookie of the Year in Grade 9 and the Defensive MVP award in Grade 10.

Andre’s goal for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) is always to learn something new.

“Each person you meet has something to teach you whether it be a player from another club, a new coach or a CIS recruiter,” added the Stampeder.

As a 2018 graduate, Andre also sees the #CFC100 list as a goal of his.

During the off-season, he is working one-on-one with a strength and conditioning coach who has programmed a four day split, which includes both heavy loading and accessory work.

A fifth day is dedicated to working on agility and quickness with his game speed coach, Shea Pierre, who is a retired CFL player.

“I am fortunate to have participated in a number of skill camps offered by current pro players through Overtime Football Club,” continued the defensive back. “This year, 7-on-7 will be my focus.”

On the field, Courtney Stephen of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats is his idol as Stephen has encouraged me to look at universities and has suggested ways to evaluate their football programs.

Stephen has also provided advice on talking with the CIS coaches who have expressed interest in him.

“He demands that I focus on academics more than my athletics,” commented Andre. “He is my role model because even when he is in season, he is never too busy to offer advice and share his experience.”

The Stampeder loves football because it has the perfect mix for him – physicality, strategy and athleticism.
