Dennis Larocque started out as a baseball player with the Ontario Expo organization, but football was something he always wanted to try.

His speed and agility coach, Mark Regan at Centre Field Sports, told him about the London Minor Football Association (LMFA). He then played for their peewee Red Storm team in the fall of 2013 and 2014, where he started his very first game that gave him confidence to build on.

Dennis had the honour of playing in the LMFA All Star game in both of his years with the Red Storm, and was asked to try out for the Forest City Thunderbirds after the first one. He then played a second season with the Thunderbirds, but had a non-game related injury causing him to miss majority of the season, only making it back for the final two games.

This year, he made the switch to the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) to play with the London Jr. Mustangs, and the overall experience thus far has been fantastic.

“I have played for some great coaches and have learned so much from them,” said Dennis.

Additionally, he also plays for his high school team, the Catholic Central Crusaders, in the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA) and serves as a captain.

Dennis’ goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to once against make the team and build on last year’s performance.

“In 2015 I was injured and could not play, but on the 2016 freshman team I was able to start at both left tackle and defensive tackle,” explained the Crusader. “I am really looking forward to once again have the opportunity to help lead team west to another win.”

The OPC has allowed him to catch the interest of prep schools on both sides of the border, as it is a great opportunity to be seen and receive exposure.

During the offseason, Dennis plays basketball for the Crusaders in addition to weight training both at school and at home.

He also continues to work with Mark Regan on his speed and agility training.

“I am constantly trying to improve and get better,” added Dennis.

The Crusader has also attended a football camp at Laurier in the past and really enjoyed it.

“I plan on attending more university camps in Canada and the U.S. in the coming years,” continued Dennis. In the future, he hopes to play for Western or Laurier, but the dream is Alabama or USC.

On the field, Dennis’ role model is Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers because he has always admired the way he plays the game, his attitude towards the game and ultimately his physicality.

“I would love to play for the Packers someday,” added the Crusader.

Dennis loves football because of the leadership skills it has taught him, the brotherhood both on and off the field, as well as the constant support and encouragement from coaches and teammates.

“Football is a true team sport and it is a lot of fun,” explained the Crusader. “I love it so much that I am continuing to be a volunteer student coach for the peewee Red Storm team.”

“It is great to give back to the game.”
