Former #CFC100 OL becomes Bisons first 2016 commitment (VIDEO)

The Manitoba Bisons are pleased to announce the first football commitment for the 2016 season is offensive lineman Aarmin Purewal.

Bison football head coach Brian Dobie, now in his 20th season with Manitoba, talked about his newest recruit for next season. “We felt that Aarmin was one of the top OL recruits in the nation two years ago, and we recruited him very hard at that time. Unfortunately we finished second in 2014 but we are very pleased to have had this second opportunity to recruit such a fine young man.”

An offensive lineman from Victoria, B.C., Purewal, 19, was a member of the 2014 CFC Top 100. He spent the 2014 season with the Western Ontario Mustangs, and is currently playing with the Westshore Rebels of the BCFC in 2015.

An alumnus of the storied Mount Douglas Secondary football program in Saanich, BC, Purewal played for three consecutive varsity provincial championship teams and was named a provincial All-Star, All-Canadian and Most Outstanding Lineman. In addition, he was a member of Team BC, which won the International Bowl in Texas during 2013.

The 6’5, 290 lb. lineman is expected to be an impact recruit for the Bisons. “Offensive linemen are a position of perpetual need for every CIS program,” says Bisons recruiting coordinator Chris Clement.

In coming to Manitoba, Purewal is reunited with several Mount Douglas teammates, including fellow 2014 CFC Top 100 OL Christian Krause, LB Julian Luis, and DB’s Zack Sandulescu and Tyler Fong, all playing with the Bisons this season.

Purewal enthused, “Signing with Manitoba at last is truly a dream come true, it’s been a long three year process but I’m glad it’s finally come to an end. Coach Dobie and [Bisons OL Coach Terry] Watson recruited me like I was family, and that’s something I really loved about the Bisons. The coaching staff and facilities are world class, and I can’t wait to be out in Winnipeg to help the team as much as I can.”

Bison offensive lineman coach Terry Watson also commented, “I am really excited to have Aarmin finally commit to being a Bison! He brings great technique and a very physical mindset to our group. I can’t wait to have him in Winnipeg to start working with the team and expect him to make us better right away.”
