Football players work hard to make ASG

“The first tryout was held in Bonnyville,” said head coach Tim Reid. “The next one will be held in Lloydminster and the final one, which is really a prep one, will be held in Cold Lake, just because it’s fairly central within our zone.”

The first tryout saw 55 kids tryout for the team and they’re allowed to carry 35 into the Games, which are July 19-25 in the Peace Region.

Turnout from the Fort McMurray area was light on the weekend of the first tryout, which happened the same weekend as the Devon Rock Memorial Game.

“Our hope is that after the next weekend, we’ll have seen the most talented and dedicated players that want to participate in the Alberta Summer Games and we have the opportunity to evaluate them,” Reid said. “We’ll put the best team on the field. To this point, we’re really thrilled with the level of talent we’ve seen on the team.”

The team will be helmed by coach Reid, and assistant coaches Ryan Henderson and Ron Lamoureux.

“It’s exciting to take our team and challenge the rest of the province,” Reid said.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
