Football New Brunswick aims for 2012 Football Canada cup participation; Wasson leads program

Ed Wasson of Salisbury has been appointed head coach of the provincial U18 football program, a new initiative of Football New Brunswick.

The program will include regional teams in each of Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton with interlocking play among those teams and possibly a team out of P.E.I. From the regional teams, a provincial team will be selected to partake in a home-and-home with either Quebec or Nova Scotia.

The intent of the program is to build a foundation that will see N.B. participate in Football Canada’s 2012 Canada Cup. Wasson began his coaching with the J.M.A. Armstrong program in Salisbury and later took over as head coach at Bernice MacNaughton High in Moncton. The Highlanders under Wasson won provincial titles in 2004, 2006 to 2008 and finished runnerup to FHS this year.
