Football Canada Cup QBs: Meet Team Alberta’s Bonaca & Armsworthy


As part of its extensive Football Canada Cup coverage CFC will be profiling the “Quarterbacks of the Football Canada Cup”. The Football Canada Cup takes place July 9 to 16th in Lethbridge, Alberta. The teams competing in the Under-18 format include British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario-West, Ontario-East, Quebec & Nova Scotia. Today we profile the Quarterbacks from the host province, Alberta:

Taylor Armsworthy (Foothills, Okotoks)

Class 2013

Taylor has been playing football for seven years, all of which he has played QB. His main QB coach is Mike Brooks (FCHS Falcons QB coach) and he also attends camps, the last two summers at a QB & receiver camp in Thousand Oaks, California. He has worked with numerous US QB college coaches as well as NFL QBs John Beck, Max Hall, and Ty Detmer.

Taylor started playing with the Foothills Atoms Eagles, Foothills Pee Wee Eagles, Foothills Bantam Falcons and now with Foothills Composite High School Falcons.

When asked about what it will mean to play in the Football Canada Cup, “It’ll be an amazing experience to be able to see the best player’s that Canada has to offer. Looking forward to having a successful tournament with team Alberta and looking for further exposure for university coaches.”

Taylor turns 16 in October so he is eligible to play in the 2012 Football Canada Cup in Ontario.

Matt Bonaca (Salisbury, Sherwood Park)

Class 2012

Matt has been playing quarterback for 6 years now, having played peewee for the Edmonton Seahawks, bantam for the Elk Island Lightning, and high school for the Salisbury Sabres.

Matt is coached by QB coach Andy Pilon. He has also learned a lot from his head coach Cam Fraser and Offensive Coordinator Blake Dermott.

When asked about what it will mean to play in the Football Canada Cup, “I am very excited for the Canada Cup. I can’t wait to represent my province and compete for a national championship. I think Alberta will have a strong team and we will compete.”
