Football Canada Cup QBs: Meet Quebec’s Dumas, Mongeon-Duby, Fortier, & Richard (videos)

As part of its extensive Football Canada Cup coverage CFC will be profiling the “Quarterbacks of the Football Canada Cup”. The Football Canada Cup takes place July 9 to 16th in Lethbridge, Alberta. The teams competing in the Under-18 format include British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario-West, Ontario-East, Quebec & Nova Scotia. Today we profile the Quarterbacks from Team Quebec:

Note: Quebec does not declare a 40-man roster like other teams so at this time there are 4 QBs on the roster and we will not know who makes the squad until they play their first game. We are not sure what the rules are, if any, so we are happy to profile 4 potential Quebec QBs.

Guillaume Dumas (EmbĆ¢cle Benoit-Vachon)

Class 2015

Guilluame has been playing QB for 5 years. During that time he has played for L’EmbĆ¢cle de la Polyvalente & BenoĆ®t-Vachon at Sainte-Marie de Beauce in JuvĆ©nile AAA. Now he attends FX Garneau in the CollĆ©gial AAA (CEGEP)

His first 3 years playing QB he was coached by Nicolas Grenier who was the head coach of the Juvenile team at this time and was instrumental in helping Guillaume develop as a QB. Jessy GagnƩ coached him his first 2 years in Cadet AA. The 2 last years Sonny Lacroix and Patrice Drouin coached Guillaume. Now, at FX Garneau, Pascal Trudeau is the QB coach and helped him a lot this winter.

When asked about this years Football Canada Cup Guillaume had this to say. “First, I want to perform the best I can to benefit the team and after we will see what happens.”

Mongeon-Duby (Citadins CitƩ des Jeunes)

Class 2014

This will be Jeremie’s 7th year playing QB. He started playing football with the St-Lazare Stallions (2 seasons) and then joined the new program called the Western Patriot in Pincourt (1 season). After that Jeremie played 5 years for his high school team the Citadins CitĆ© des Jeunes. This year he will play CEGEP for the St-Jean-sur-Richelieu GĆ©ants.

His QB coach with the Stallions was Loonie Johnson and for the Citadins it was Patrick Nadeau who played QB for Bishop’s.

When asked about this years Football Canada Cup Jeremie had this to say. “Well it is my first experience with the Canada cup so I don’t really know what’s going to happen. But with all the greats players and coaches on our team I think this year will be a great one.”

Jeremie is doing a 3-year CEGEP program and is his goal is to attend university and enroll in a Kinesiology program. “Playing CIS is one of my dreams I have had since I am really young. I hope it will happen.”

Gabriel Fortier (Barons SĆ©minaire de Sherbrooke)

Class 2014



Gabriel has played QB for 5 years. He played high school football for the Sherbrooke Barons, winning back to back Juvenile AA Bol Dā€™or in 2009 and 2010. He is now committed to the Sherbrooke Volontaires in the Collegial AA Div. 1 league.



During high school Gabriel was coached by Frederic Olivier, the head coach. He also had the chance to work with some of the best QB coaches in Quebec such as Sherbrooke Universityā€™s David Lessard and Bishopā€™s Universityā€™s Benoit Groulx, former Laval QB. He also trained with JP Shoiry from Sherbrooke.



When asked about this years Football Canada Cup Gabriel had this to say. “I think that we are going to be a really competitive team. We have a lot of great coaches from everywhere in Quebec and we are physically very well prepared. Our main goal is definitely to win. Iā€™m really looking forward to this competition and I think it is going to be a great experience.”


Hugo Richard (Cactus CollĆØge Notre-Dame)

Class 2013

Hugo has been playing quarterback for 6 years now. He played for the St-Bruno Barons (in his hometown) than he played for the Cactus du College Notre-Dame (CFCs #2 ranked high school team in 2010), and will now play for the Vanier College Cheetahs (2010 Bol d’or champions – AAA)

He was coached by Gilbert Lussier (St-Bruno Barons), Guillaume Martin (Cactus) and now Ron Aboud (Cheetahs).

When asked about this years Football Canada Cup Hugo had this to say. “I am frantic, it is a really exciting event, and I hope to be part of the line-up and i will work as hard as possible to make it come true.”
