Austin Thornton commitment

British Columbia defensive end newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

Matt McGarva played an instrumental role in a recruit’s recent decision to commit to an OIUA school.

Austin Thornton is the newest member of the Windsor Lancers.Β  The 6’4, 205 pound defensive end/long snapper from Cloverdale, British Columbia will join the team for the 2014 OUA season.

β€œI committed to the University of Windsor because during my visit, I felt like this team was the one I wanted to be a part of,” explained Thornton.Β  β€œAlso, one of my current coaches (Matt McGarva, current BC Lion and Lord Tweedsmuir alumni) had a big impact on my decision.”

β€œHe had said a lot of good things about Windsor prior to my visit, and when I got there, everything he said seemed real and true. I also felt like the coaching staff wanted me and the university offers the educational program I want to study.”

Thornton completed his high school career with Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA). During the 2013 season, the defensive standout registered 74 tackles, recorded 12 sacks and caught an interception which he returned for a touchdown.
