Elliott, Greaves selected in sixth round of CFL Draft

LONDON, Ont. – Linebacker Conor Elliott (London, Ont.) and defensive lineman Chris Greaves (Mississauga, Ont.) were both selected in the sixth round of the 2010 Canadian Football League (CFL) Canadian Draft on May 2.
Elliott, 21, was taken by Toronto (via Hamilton) 44th overall, while Greaves was selected 45th overall by Winnipeg (via Calgary). The back-to-back Mustangs’ selections were both taken in the sixth round.

Elliott made 30.5 total tackles, including 5.5 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, three interceptions and two forced fumbles with the Mustangs in 2009.
Fittingly, Elliott found out about the selection while in spring camp with the Mustangs at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
“We were in our spring camp and I was long snapping and my brother ran down from the stands and everyone on the team was there,” Elliott said. “And they gave me cheers and hoots. It was a good way to find out about it because the coaches and the guys were around me when I found out.”
Elliott will attend training camp in about one month.
“I’m happy about being picked to go to Toronto, but honestly it really has not sunk in yet,” he said. “It’s close to home and that’s important for me to be close to my family,” he said. “Playing pro ball is great and I’m pretty excited about the opportunity.”
A graduate of Oakridge Secondary School, Elliott has become a vital cog in the Mustangs’ defensive wheel at the outside linebacker position.
Greaves, 23, was chosen immediately after Elliott was selected, and he contributed 16.5 total tackles in 2009, including 4.5 for losses, two pass break-ups and 1.5 sacks for Western.
In total, 10 student-athletes from five different OUA schools were selected by five different CFL teams in the 2010 edition of the CFL draft.
