Eighth #CFC100 recruit signs with Carleton (VIDEO)

Amherstburg running back joins OUA team’s 2016 class

The Carleton Ravens have announced the addition of #CFC100 Matthieu Pickens.

Pickens, the 6’1, 200 pound running back from Amherstburg, Ontario will join the team for the 2016 OUA season.

“Mathieu is an exceptional student-athlete, he is an excellent athlete who has demonstrated in the past he can be a dominant player,” commented Ravens Head Coach Steve Sumarah.  “His exceptional work ethic will be invaluable as he juggles his engineering degree and varsity athletics.”

“We look forward to the next five years and what he will bring to our program on and off the field.”

This commitment is a silver lining for Pickens as an injury has sidelined him for the past nine months.  Prior to the injury, the #CFC100 recruit suited up for the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) where he led the junior varsity division in rushing yards.  Additionally, he had the chance to make the move up to the varsity squad and played the second half of the OVFL Championship Game.

During his time with EJ Lajeunesse Royals of the Windsor and Essex County Secondary School Athletic Association (WECSSAA), the running back was named the division’s MVP.

Overall, Pickens chose the Ravens because it provided all the things he was searching for in a football program as well as academically.

“I chose to pursue my career at Carleton University because it has a mixture of everything I’m looking for,” elaborated the #CFC100.  “Playing football is great and one of my biggest passions in life so I was looking for a school that had a good football program as well as a mechanical engineering program.”

“Leading into my decision, I knew that taking on both programs would be tough so I needed to be sure to pick a school that would give me the support I need. In addition Carleton is a nice atmosphere to be in and I’m looking forward to attending the school as well as playing for a great football team.”

With the addition of Pickens, the Ravens now have eight #CFC100 recruits.  The others are 2014 #CFC100 ranked transfer Shaun Robinson, linebacker Jack Cassar, lineman J-Min Pelley, defensive back Tyrell Richards, running back Jevante Stanley, defensive back Ricardo Barrett and receiver Nigel Goodridge.
