DT from Trois-Rivières commits to Carabins

Carabins add another commit to their 2017 class.

Cédric Mignault, a defensive tackle from Cégep de Trois-Rivières, will be heading down the St. Lawrence after committing to the University of Montréal.

Mignault currently lives in Trois-Rivières, which is an hour and a half north-east of Montréal. He has played for the Diablos du Cégep de Trois-Rivières (Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec Division 2) for the past three years.

Now, Mignault will be joining the Carabins in 2017. “I really like their mentality. They look like a big family. I also chose them because I know that I have a good opportunity to play because they are losing two good players at my position,” the 6’4, 270lbs, defensive tackle said.

“I don’t really know the coaches, but I know they have a lot of experience. I am sure they are going to teach me well,” he added.

Mignault is originally from Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, which is east of Montréal. During his high school years, he played with Saint-Joseph Secondary School Patriots (RSEQ Division 2). In 2011, he won a Bol D’Or while in the RSEQ juvenile division 2b.

“It’s not a big division, but we had fun and played well so we won,” he said of his experience at the championship game.

The Carabins are a far cry from the teams he has played with. Mignault said, “I am very happy to join the Carabins because they are in the top five of the best teams in Canada. I am excited to play with this team.”
