Kiel started playing football as a Tyke in the Scarborough Thunderā€™s house league. He was a talented young athlete who decided to shift his focus to playing AA hockey for a few years. Then, in grade 10 Kiel decided he would play junior football with his high school, the Malvern Collegiate Black Knights. He played running back and kick returner that season and it reignited his love for football.

Since his return to the gridiron, Kiel has shown his talent and determination every time heā€™s been on the field. His speed, agility, elusiveness and determination have earned him many awards including: Offensive MVP of the Junior Varsity Scarborough Thunder (2012), Offensive MVP of the Wettges Conference in the OVFL All-Star Game (2013), and has been invited FBUĀ Top Gun.

ā€œBeing named the Offensive MVP for the Wettges conference team at the OVFL All ā€“Star game has been my most memorable football experience,” says Kiel.Ā  “I knew this was my chance to get my name out there and show the skills I have running the ball.”

“I blocked out all the pressure from the fans and scouts in the stands and just focused on playing the best game I can. I went in calm and focused but determined to get in the end zone. I ended the game with 2 touchdowns and was named Offensive MVP of the game, thatā€™s an experience and achievement that will be with me for the rest of my life.ā€

In addition to his athletic achievements, Kiel has earned himself a spot on his schoolā€™s academic honour roll while taking university level courses. He understands that a major part of being a student athlete and continuing to play football at a university or college requires equal effort on the field and in the classroom.

ā€œMy favourite course is English, but Iā€™m looking to major in Business for university,ā€ says Kiel.

Kiel will be graduating in 2014 and is hoping to continue playing football while completing his post-secondary education. Heā€™s been in contact with coaches from the University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McMaster University, St. Francis Xavier, Western University in the CIS and Charleston University in the NCAA but has not committed to any schools yet.

ā€œI am extremely happy for the success that I have seen and am going to continue to work harder academically and athletically every day to achieve my goal of getting a post-secondary scholarship.ā€ says Kiel.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
