A veteran of the Niagara Spears football program and a student at Notre Dame College in Welland, Sandor Mod is undertaking the sometimes exciting but often nerve-wracking recruitment process. Mod is however in the envious decision of likely having multiple schools to choose from. While having more than one school that is vying for his services, Mod knows the process can be gruelling and wants to make sure he is choosing the right school for him.

β€œThe recruitment process has been long and some what stressful,” he explained of the process. β€œEvery school has something a little different to offer and it gets to be a lot cause I want to make the right choice for me.”

At 6’4 and 255 pounds, Mod is an intimidating presence that can wreak havoc on an opposing offensive line. It is no surprise that he is attracting so much attention.

While he hasn’t made a decision on his future school yet, Mod has made unofficial visits to several universities including Guelph, McMaster, Manitoba, Ottawa and Carleton.

While a member of the Niagara Spears, Mod earned himself an linemen of the year award and was selected to play in this years OVFL all star game. Mod credited much of his success to his Spears coach of five years Simon Gichard and his father whom he called his β€˜hardest critic’.

β€œ[Mr. Gichard] has seen me grow and lead me to become the football player I am today,” he said. β€œThe most influential people in my life have to be my parents since they have helped me with everything that has come to do with football.”

With his massive frame and passion for the game, Mod is eyeing a future in the CFL while pursuing a degree in environmental sciences. There is little time for rest for someone with such lofty goals for themselves. Mod stated this summer he has been focusing on his footwork and speed as well as his schooling to ensure that he has the grades to get into the program he chooses.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
