Former Saint Maryβs Huskies defensive coordinator Devin Murphy issued a statement on his thoughts regarding his departure from the football program. Murphy and the Huskies football program mutually agreed to part ways this past Tuesday.
The following is a statement from Murphy:
“I am proud to have been a part of the great tradition at Saint Mary’s University and wish Perry and the boys the best of luck in the future.
There has been a lot of change in the past 12 months with the departure of both the Head Coach and the Athletic Director, and I am glad to have had the opportunity to assists with the transition.
“With a limited roster, we worked desperately each week to field a competitive defense. I am very proud of the players and assistant coaches for their commitment to learning multiple defensive packages to cope with our personnel situation-at times, for example, running a 30 front out of necessity when we were down to our last defensive tackle.
The players and coaches showed great versatility and I am very grateful for their efforts. I am especially appreciative of Steve Watts who did a tremendous job coaching special teams while continuing his work with the defense.
I know Perry will do a great job assembling a staff of his guys and will take big strides in his first full off-season as Head Coach of the Huskies.”
