Desire to win solidifies Brantford, Ontario pivot’s decision to commit to Golden Hawks

An OUA team has made a significant recruitment splash.

On Wednesday, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced the signing of Michael Knevel for the 2013 OUA season. The team is excited that the 6’4, 210 pound quarterback from Brantford, Ontario has decided to join the fold and look forward to having him as the newest member of the team.

β€œI am thrilled that Michael chose Wilfrid Laurier to further his education and play football,” commented Golden Hawks head coach Michael Faulds after Knevel’s commitment.Β  β€œHe is a phenomenal addition to our program and we will ask him to compete from the first day he steps on campus until the last.”

Knevel has some key attributes which will benefit the Golden Hawks offensive unit.

β€œMichael has the prototype body for a quarterback,” explained Faulds.Β  β€œHe is 6’4″, very athletic and will fit into our offensive system very well.”

β€œHe is a keen student of the game and wants to be the best.”

Ultimately, the team’s desire to be successful and win sold the Brantford, Ontario quarterback on committing to the Waterloo, Ontario school.

β€œI chose Wilfrid Laurier because it’s close to home, I can tell Coach Faulds wants to win and I feel like my talents would excel in Coach Faulds’ offense,” said Knevel.Β  β€œI like that Wilfrid Laurier sees a 3-5 seasons as a failure or unacceptable season.”

β€œTo me, this means they want to win and compete.”

Recently, Knevel completed his high school career with Pauline Johnson Thunderbirds of the Brantford County Secondary Schools Athletic Association (BCSSAA).Β  Additionally, the quarterback suited up for the Brantford Bisons of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).Β  He has been selected as a Golden Horseshoe All-Star as well as a Blue-Grey All-Star.Β  This past December, Knevel’s brother David committed to NCAA FBS team Nebraska Cornhuskers.
