Colm Tompkins joined his first football team when he was 6 years old. Tompkins played for the Crescentwood Grizzlies (Manitoba Minor Football Association) until he was 12 years old, and then joined the St.Paulβs Crusaders (Winnipeg High School Football League) junior varsity team when he was in grade 9. Colm made the Crusadersβ βAAβ team in grade 10, and has made their βAAAβ team the past two years.
A memory that stood out from last season was when Colm and the Crusaders hosted their homecoming game. Colm talked about that experience, he mentioned, βThis was an incredible experience because you are playing for the people who wore the same maroon jersey before you. Itβs crazy to see how far back the legacy goes.β
When looking for support and someone to look up to, Colm doesnβt have to look far. Tompkins said, βMy parents who have supported me in everything I have done in life.
On the gridiron, Colm has been influenced by the coaches at St.Paulβs. βMy Coaches at St. Paulβs who have taught me so much and pushed me to be the player I am today,β added Colm.
Colmβs plans after high school are to continue taking football as far as he possibly can. Once heβs done with football, Colm wants to get his degree in English and then hopefully attend Fire College and become a fire fighter.
In terms of recruitment Colm has been talked to by a few CIS schools but there hasnβt been anything concrete as of yet. Colm is hoping his final season can spark some more interest.
When asked what heβs going to do to improve this season, Colm replied, βIβmΒ gonnaΒ come back hitting harder and running faster.β
