DB Lessard would do anything for the game

There is a moment in every athlete’s life where they have to ask themselves, “what does this sport mean to me?”, and for Nicolas Lessard, the answer to the question is simple.

Lessard draws a deep connection to his sport of choice. He said that football means everything to him. “When I jump on the field, I feel like it’s my second house. I would do everything to play football,” he said. “I am completely devoted to the sport.”

Entrenched in the game for ten years, the young defensive back knows he couldn’t have made it this far without two very important supporters, his parents. “My parents… influence me the most because they will always help me develop and be better in my sport. They will help me make decisions…and will always be there if I need help,” Lessard said.

Lessard, who said he plays his own style, does not base his game off any professional player. When he hits the turf, he said he enjoys his position because he can tackle, but also play the ball.

In high school, Lessard played with Les Dynamiques du Collège Charles-Lemoyne (RSEQ). This summer, he won a gold medal with Team Québec in the 2017 Football Canada Cup versus Team Saskatchewan. He said that playing in this tournament in Nova Scotia has been his most memorable football experience so far.

In the final game of the Canada Cup, Lessard was named as the game’s defensive MVP. He ended the tournament with 11 tackles, three batted balls and two interceptions. In the 2016 season with Les Dynamiques, while on the offense, he had 28 catches for 580 total yards and eight touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, he had 25 tackles and one interception.

In August, Lessard was chosen to be a member of the 2018 U18 edition of Team Canada, which competes in the International Bowl. Aside from the Team Québec selection camps, he has not participated in any other combines or camps.

Before heading to university, Lessard has three years of cégep to complete. He will be suiting up with Les Géants du Cégep St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (RSEQ Division 1) during those years. Already looking into the future, he said he is looking forward to participating in playoff games because he likes playing in important games and playing under pressure.

For this season, he plans on working hard on and off the field. The goal? “To be known in the league and to be respected,” he said. “I want to work hard to make plays and be one of the best at my positions.”
