DB Bal excited to work with familiar coaches on Waterloo

Warriors add an Ontario commit to their Class of 2017.

After getting a taste of American football, Harjas Bal, a defensive back from Clarkson Football North, decided that his heart belongs in the Great White North, and with the University of Waterloo Warriors.

A former member of Team Ontario, Bal was given a preview of what he could expect from the Warriors’ coaching staff. “I knew Coach Darrell Adams for quite a while. He coached me while I was on Team Ontario as well, so we already had a connection,” Bal said.

It didn’t take long for Bal to feel the love from the rest of the coaches. He said they are very open and welcoming. “Especially Head Coach Bertoia and Coach DA,” he added. “(They) made me feel like family when I went on my visit.”

Bal was a member of the inaugural season of Football North, an American football prep program based out of Clarkson Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario. “It was a great experience,” he said.

Prior to his time at Clarkson, the 5’10, 175lbs Bal played with the Brampton Bulldogs (OVFL) in his hometown of Brampton, Ontario. The ten-year veteran is interested in legal studies. He said that he chose Waterloo because it is “a perfect fit in both academics and athletics.”

In his journey, Bal didn’t become the person and player he is today all on his own. “I want to thank my parents for everything that have done for me,” he said. “I am who I am because of them.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
