Evan Machibroda commitment

Teammates reunite to become newest recruits to join CWUAA team’s 2014 class.

Two high school and provincial teammates will once again join forces.

This time it will be at the CIS level.

Both Evan Machibroda and Andrew Serke have recently signed with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.  They will join the team for the 2014 CWUAA season.

EVAN MACHIBRODA:

For the 6’3, 270 pound defensive lineman from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the situation was perfect for him to commit to the local CIS team.

“I committed to the University of Saskatchewan because the support the team gets from the city is incredible,” expressed Machibroda.  “Staying at home was a big part of it too as it makes for a smaller transition to university life.”

“The school also has a great academic reputation. Lastly, it just seemed like the right place for me.”

The defensive lineman recently completed his high school career with Holy Cross Crusaders of the Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate (SSSAD). In six regular season games during the 2013 season, he registered 25 tackles and six sacks.  He led the team to three consecutive City Championships.

Machibroda has represented his home province as a member of Team Saskatchewan at two Football Canada Cups – 2012 in London, Ontario and 2013 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Last month, the Saskatchewan defensive standout was selected to the Junior National Team roster that participated in the 2014 International Bowl Series in Arlington, Texas.

This week, Machibroda was selected to represent the nation as a member of Football Canada’s Junior National Team that will travel to Kuwait for the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) under-19 World Championships in July.

Andrew Serke

ANDREW SERKE:

With the 6’0, 285 pound center from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan commitment to the Huskies, he will be following in family footsteps while making his ultimate dream come true.

“I have grown up with the program as my dad played for the team, and both my parents went to the University of Saskatchewan,” reflected Serke.  “I have gone to the Huskies’ home games since I can remember and have always dreamed of playing for them.”

Moreover, there were other reasons he chose the Saskatchewan campus.

“Another factor why I chose to play for the Huskies is that it the University of Saskatchewan is a highly regarded institution,” added the center. “I will get a great education as well as have the chance to play for one of the best teams in Canada. “

“Another big reason was the team atmosphere.  Knowing players on the team, and hearing of how close everyone on the team is really helped my decision when the opportunity came up to sign with the Huskies.  Since I signed, the entire team has made me feel like part of the team.  Coach (Brian) Towriss is one of the top coaches in Canadian football so of course I am excited to play for him; it is a huge honour to play for a team and a coach with such a winning tradition.”

Serke guided the Holy Cross Crusaders of the Saskatoon Secondary Schools Athletic Directorate (SSSAD) to three consecutive City Championships. He also represented his home province as a member of Team Saskatchewan at two Football Canada Cups – 2012 in London, Ontario and 2013 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

With his commitment, he will be reunited with high school and provincial teammate, Evan Machibroda.
