Community football leader accepts Spartan coaching position

Sudbury Spartans Announce Head Coach

The Sudbury Spartans are pleased to announce Gord Goddard as the new Head Coach of the Sudbury Spartans football club. Gord will serve two vital roles for the 2011 Spartans – leading the executive as Team President and leading the team as Head Coach.

Whenever football in Sudbury has asked Gord to take on a role – he has stepped up to the plate and given back to the football community. A true community leader who embellishes the Spartan spirit of hard work and discipline – he has been a member of the Spartan community since 1993 and has served the team as a player, coach and executive member.

Gord has served as the Spartans Team President since 2007 and was instrumental in bringing the Spartans back into the Northern Football Conference for the 2011 season.

This isn’t the first time Gord has coached the Spartans – he served as Head Coach for the 1998, 1999 and 2000 seasons. He was the NFC Coach of the Year in 1999 and was awarded the Sid Forster Coach of the Year Award from the Northern Football Conference.

His coaching resume began with the Joe Macdonald Youth Football League where he coached for 5 seasons, he served as Lockerby Composites Schools Head Coach for 5 seasons. He entered the football officiating ranks in 2000 and has been an on-field official for hundreds of football games. In 2007 when Lively was launching their football program – they were in need of a Head coach with only a week before their first game- Gord stepped in for one season to lead the inaugural Lively football team. The past two years, he has been an assistant coach with Chelmsford High – coaching alongside longtime football friends Walter Wilson and Paddy Walsh.

β€œIt’s an honour to serve as Head Coach of the Spartans once again. I am looking forward to a competitive Spartan team taking to the field for 2011. I hope I can fill the shoes of the coaching legends who have come before me including Sid Forster, Gary Ricker, Paddy Walsh and Chris Bartolucci”.

Jean Claude Nantel a former Spartan player and Notre Dame high school coach will be Gord’s Assistant Head Coach and will be running the offense.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
