Over the last four seasons, Brendan has played for the bantam and junior varsity Markham Raiders of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). While playing for his high school team, the Brother Andre Cardinals, the defensive star has already made a significant impact in two seasons.

The Cardinals awarded Brendan with the special teams award and he was a team defensive captain. Most recently, the defensive star was selected to the GTA Rising Stars team that will participate in the all-star game at McMaster University on May 6th.

Brendan experienced the highlight of his young football career last season when he played in the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) Tier 1 championship. The defensive standout registered over 20 tackles in that game.

Being able to accomplish all that he has in such a short time comes from having the strong influences in his life. Brendan credits his family and many football coaches. However, one coach who has played a key role in his development as a player is Cardinals coach Chad Garel.

“He worked with me extensively on my linebacking skills and I like to think that he improved my knowledge and skills a great deal,” adds the Cardinals linebacker, who also plays rubgy.

While he may only be in grade 10, Brendan already has academic and career goals he would like to attain away from the gridiron. Once he completes high school, he would like to study business or accounting in university. As for a future career, he would like to be an accountant, lawyer or pursue something in the sales industry.

Already, he has learned one key ingredient for success in all aspects of life: teamwork.

“I have learned that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” says Brendan. “Working together will allow you to achieve much more than working alone.”
