Born in Manitoba and raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Lawson didn’t experience his first taste of football until 2008, suiting up for the London Falcons of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). Moreover, the linebacker has played high school ball for the Saunders Sabres and represented Team Ontario West at the Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alberta (July 2011).

One of Lawson’s unforgettable football moments came while playing with the Falcons. The team made the OVFL championship game for the second straight year and faced adversity as their running back broke his leg during their semi-final game against the Mississauga Warriors.

“We were in double overtime and we’re about to kick the game winning PAT and our holder dropped the ball,” explains the Sabres linebacker. “It’s not the happiest moment but thinking back on it always gives me the motivation to go out and give my all every play.”

Overcoming adversity is something Lawson is too familiar with this past season. While gearing up to play in the Football Canada Cup, the Sabres standout broke his wrist. Even though he attended practices, Lawson couldn’t play through the injury. In high school ball with the Sabres, he played four games with the broken wrist.

Lawson was rewarded for his determination and perseverance as he was recognized with the Heart award. Most recently, Lawson achieved another major feat as he was selected to Golden Horseshoe all-star team. He will take part in the game on May 6th at McMaster University.

Asked about who the most influential people are in his life, Lawson doesn’t even hesitate in his response.

“The most influential people in my life are obviously my parents,” says the standout. “They care for me and support me no matter what I do.”

Once he does graduate from high school, Lawson would like to study kinesiology in university. As a future career, he would like to be a doctor that specializes in sports medicine or emergency medicine.

With his relentless and aggressive game on the field, he applies that attitude into all aspects of his life.

“Always give 100 percent in everything you do and don’t listen to the people who say you can’t do something,” comments Lawson.
