When he first stepped out onto the field in grade nine with his high school team, the Nelson Lords of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA), Josh knew football was the right sport for him.

“I quickly realized that my speed and athleticism were assets to my playing ability,” explains the defensive standout. “I realized that football was my passion and I started to take it more seriously with training and football camps.”

During his time with the Lords, Josh played a significant role in the the team’s success on the field. One of the highlights of his football career took place in the 2011 season, when the Lords were crowned OFSAA Golden Horseshoe Bowl champions.

“Winning the 2011 Golden Horseshoe Bowl was my most memorable football experience since I was surrounded with such talented football players,” says the Lords defensive back. “What made it even more special was when it occured to me that some people play football their whole life and don’t ever win a championship.”

Josh has been the recipient of the Fred Doerffer Awarrd, which is given to the Lords defensive player who best exemplifies determination, grit and toughness during the regular season. Recently, the defensive star was selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will participate in the all-star game on May 6th at McMaster University.

Moreover, the Lords combine testing results are impressive: 4.52 in the 40 yard dash, 8 reps at 225 pound bench press, 4.21 in the pro shuttle, 34.3″ in the vertical and 9.2 in the broad jump.

The entire Lords coaching staff is who Josh gives credit to in making him the defensive enforcer he’s become today.

“They continuously push me to perform at my best, and they are always encouraging me to improve both as a player and as a student,” comments Josh. “My defensive coordinator coach Marc Messier and defensive backs coach Jerry Philip have been great inspirations with all their experience.”

Not only have his coaches been a steady influence on the defensive standout, but so has his family.

“My parents and family have all been very supportive of my decisions in football and have taught me determination and toughness that I carry on and off the field,” adds Josh.

When the defensive star moves to university in 2013, he hopes to continue playing football while pursuing a degree in kinesiology at school. As for future career paths he has many possible avenues he interested in including medicine, sports therapy, and strength/conditioning coaching.

Ultimately, Josh is grateful for the opportunity to play football and the effect it’s had on all aspects of his life.

“Football has shaped my life in so many different ways such as being a better person overall by learning about respect, working with other people and being determined,” says Josh. “Also, if you put in all the hard work and surround yourself with good people it truly pays off.”
