Braden grew up around football because his father played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for 12 seasons (Dave Vankoughnett). As mentioned above Braden has played football for five seasons, starting his career with the St. Vital Mustangs. Hey played with the Mustangs until his high school, Dakota collegiate, got a team. Braden had some early team success, including his first season with the midget mustangs, winning the championship and then the second season losing a close game in the final. This season was the first ever for the Dakota Lancers and they went a perfect 10 and 0 with an outstanding points for and against total of 398 to 25.

Braden also participated in the last 2 Football Canada Cups (U17 in 2009 and U18 in 2010). He was a team captain in 2010 for Team Manitoba and the Dakota Lancers. And do not forget the awards: 2008 team rookie of the year, 2009 league all star, 2010 week 4 league Defensive MVP, League allstar, League Defensive MVP.

His most memorable football moment was the 2010 undefeated season and winning the championship. “Its something I will remember forever and something I am very proud of.”

The person who he looks up to in football is his dad. “He worked hard to get to where he was and it drives me to try and work hard to be as successful as I can.” Also, nothing would be possible without the support of his parents. “They get me to practice and make sure I have everything I need to compete at the highest level I can.”

Braden is also a water polo player and track and field star. He was a water polo league all star (bronze medalist) and threw javelin in provincial track finals.
