Class 2011: Regina’s Frankie Gray, QB provincial 4A champion Tartans

Today’s CFC Class 2011 football star is Frankie Gray from Regina. Frankie has been playing football for 9 years and had a good 2010; winning a provincial high school championship and national U18 championship.

Teams:

Team Saskatchewan (Football Canada Cup champs)

As mentioned above this is Frankie’s 9th year of competitive tackle football. He started when he was 8 years old, winning a pee wee level championship and bantam level championship (MVP on that team) along the way. This year his Campbell Collegiate Tartans won the 4A high school championship in Saskatchewan, again earning an MVP in the process.

He has been playing QB for 3 years now, before that playing a variety of positions including running back, linebacker, defensive back and receiver.

When asked about his most memorable football moment he cited this years provincial championship. “With a minute left to play in the provincial final we were down by seven. I broke out for a 52 run for a touchdown and we kicked the single to put it in overtime. From there my teammate scored the game winner. That was the best feeling I’ve had in football.”

CFC asked Frankie’s most influential person and Mom came number one. “Tami Gray.. Without her blood sweat and tears football would not be possible for me. She is my number one fan, but also can tell me how it is when things don’t go so good. She has not missed a game since I started playing football. I would be lost without her. My teammates also are very influential to me because that is half the reason I play the sport is to play for my teammates and my buddies. My good friend Zack Yanyk and I have been friends ten years as of this year so it was nice to cap it off with a provincial championship. Also as of the past year my girlfriend has played a large roll in my football life. She was the trainer for the last two years and my second number one fan. I am so lucky to have so many people who care about my well being and success.”

And Frankie isn’t just a football-centric high schooler. He also enjoys “a good live production such as a play or a musical. I also play basketball and baseball. I used to play hockey and have tried just about every other sport there is. I also use to take hip-hop dance lessons, but that didn’t last too long.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
