CJFLer commits to Regina Rams

Rams welcome seasoned football player to 2017 class.

Once a prairie boy, always a prairie boy, and Theren Churchill, an offensive tackle from the Edmonton Huskies (Canadian Junior Football League), will be spending the next couple years on the plains after committing to the Regina Rams.

Churchill will be crossing provincial boundaries to reach his new home of Regina from his town of Settler, Alberta, a small community south-east of Edmonton. β€œRegina was the right fit for me,” he said. β€œWhen I was being recruited, their top priority was filling the offensive line as some players were graduating. I felt I had the potential to be a big contributor to help them there.”

Standing at 6’6, 275lbs and over thirteen years of experience, Churchill will bring both size and experience to the Ram’s offensive line. β€œTheir offensive line coaches have had a good reputation of producing elite offensive lineman that have made it to the CFL and NFL. The offensive coordinator has put together a nice scheme the past couple seasons that was ranked one of the top offences in U Sports, and I feel it will be a good fit for my playing style,” he said.

The former Settler Wildcat (Central Alberta High School Football League) is looking forward to progressing with the team. β€œThey also have great potential as a team with some of the top players in the league and was ranked as one of the top teams in U Sports last season,” he said.

β€œTheir coaching staff has put a lot of work into the Rams organization to turn things around. The head coach came in his first year to lead the Rams to the playoffs and become coach of the year,” Churchill added.

Along with the school’s budding football team, Churchill said that the school is a great academic school with a great academic support system. He is currently interested in pursing a degree in either business or education.

In 2016, Churchill was named to the Prairie Football Conference (CJFL) all-star team. For the past two seasons, he has also been recognized as the Edmonton Huskies most valuable offensive lineman.
