CJFL ‘players of the week’ week 3

CJFL Outstanding Offensive Player of the Week
Bobby Davis – Quarterback – Okanagan Sun
The Okanagan Sun won their biggest game in recent memory on Saturday night snapping the VI
Raiders 25 game winning streak, 27-19.

The Sun was led by the BCFC Offensive Player of the Week; quarterback Bobby Davis. The Kelowna native finished 15 of 25 for 302 yards and two touchdowns. What doesn’t show in the stats is Davis’ ability to scramble and buy extra time to keep drives alive, something he did all night long. He added 40 yards on five carries. This is Davis’ first career BCFC Award.

CJFL Outstanding Defensive Player of the Week
Belah Small – Linebacker – South Surrey Rams
The South Surrey Rams won their first game of the 2010 campaign last weekend in a 35-17 win of the previously undefeated Victoria Rebels. The Rams defence was the story as they were lead by the Defensive Player of the Week, defensive back Belah Small. Despite his last name, Small was BIG for the Rams with five solo tackles, one batted ball and two inceptions that tallied 43 yards including running one back for a score. This is the first defensive award for the Rams this season.

CJFL Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Week
Nick Downey – Returner – South Surrey Rams
The Rams defence was great in their win, but their special teams were just a tad better. The
reigning CJFL Return Specialist of the Year Nick Downey showed why he won that award last
season. Downey would return seven punts for 171 including his first touchdown of the season
on a magical 86 yard scamper. He would also return one kick off for 34 yards and two missed
field goals for 87 yards, including just missing his second major of the game on a 62 yard dash.
Downey finished the ball game with 292 returned yards and is this week’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
