Offensive player of the week
Jamel Lyles / RB / Westshore Rebels
25 carries / 198 yards / 1 TD
The Westshore Rebels found themselves in a dogfight Saturday night against their northern island rival VI Raiders. The Rebels had trouble moving the ball against a well prepared Raiders defenseβ¦except when the ball was in the hands of #22.Β Lyles performance was key all night, but especially so in the game winning drive that was capped off with the winning 2 yard touchdown run.Β And letβs not forget he started the night off by taking the opening kickoff for a touchdown to put his team up 7-0 before the game even started

Defensive player of the week
Raquille Cespedes / DB / Okanagan Sun
2 interceptions for 33 yards
The Okanagan Sun won a classic overtime play-off game 26-23 in a tight defensive battle with the Langley Rams Sunday afternoon. The Sun needed itβs defense to perform as it was able to muster little offensively against a Rams defense that has been formidable all season long. Cespedes was in lockdown mode all day.Β Additionally, he was called on in certain special team situations to punt the ball and without his play his team wouldnβt be moving on. In one situation he recovered his own punt. Then, with a minute to go and the game tied 23-23, and the Sun facing third down and 10 at their own 20-yard line, Cespedes ran for a first downβby a matter of inchesβto help his club retain possession and force overtime.
Special Teams player of the week
Kealey Heintz / K / Okanagan Sun
5 punts 119 yards
6 kick offs 184 yards
4/4 field goals including 34 yarder overtime winner
2/2 converts
Based on the regular season Kealey Heintz was the second best kicker in this game as all-star Tiernan Docherty was across the field for the Langley Rams.Β But on this afternoon, as Heintz continued his stellar season long play he was the man of the day for his team with pinpoint punting that kept the Rams on a long field and he was perfect in hitting the uprights.Β A 34 yard field goal on grass to win an overtime play-off game. Thatβs why kickers do what they do!
