CIS POW (14): Cibasu, Coady & Crapigna honoured

OTTAWA Ā ā€“ Wide receiver RĆ©gis Cibasu and safety Anthony Coady, both of the Vanier Cup champion Montreal Carabins, as well as kicker Tyler Crapigna of the McMaster Marauders are the CIS football players of the week for the final week of the 2014 season.

Cibasu, a first-year administration student born in Kinshasa, Congo, was honoured on offence thanks to his game-MVP performance in the Carabinsā€™ dramatic 20-19 triumph in front of 22,649 fans at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal, on Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound freshman caught six balls for a game-high 90 receiving yards en route to claiming the Ted Morris Memorial Trophy. Three of his receptions came in the fourth quarter, including a 32-yard catch at the McMaster three-yard line that led to a touchdown on the next play, as well as receptions of 13 and 19 yards that led to Montrealā€™s game-winning field goal with 2:45 remaining.

McMaster running back Wayne Moore was also up for the award.

Coady, a fourth-year physical and health education student from Montreal, took home the weekly honour on defence after he captured the Bruce Coulter Award for his defensive performance in the 50th TELUS Vanier Cup. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior had the gameā€™s only two interceptions, both in his own territory, the first one at the Montreal 26 early in the opening quarter and the second at the Carabins 41 on McMasterā€™s first drive of the fourth frame. He also added one solo and two assisted tackles in the victory

McMaster lineman Mark Mackie was also nominated.

Crapigna, a fifth-year economics student from Nepean, Ont., was the choice on special teams following his final game in a McMaster uniform. The 5-foot-7, 170-pound veteran accounted for 13 of the Maraudersā€™ 19 points on Saturday thanks to four field goals (22, 35, 43, 29) and a convert, and he also averaged 35.8 yards on eight punts and 54.5 yards on a pair of kickoffs. Unfortunately for the 2014 Calgary Stampedersā€™ draft pick, his potential game-winning field goal attempt from 31 yards out with 59 seconds left in the contest was blocked following a great push by the Montreal line.

Montreal defensive tackle Mathieu Girard, who blocked Crapignaā€™s final field goal attempt, was the other nominee.
