Defensive standout becomes second straight Alberta recruit to join AUS team’s 2014 class.

On the heels of TJ Cairns commitment, a second Alberta standout has committed to the Mount Allison Mounties for the 2014 season.

Dean Ciampanelli is the newest Mountie.  The 6’0, 170 pound defensive player from St. Albert, Alberta was swayed by the reputation the university and the football program boasts on a national level.

“The number one reason I choice Mount Allison is because they were ranked number one in Mcleans Magazine as the best small university and the best undergraduate university in the country,” said Ciampanelli.  “Mount Allison winning the Loney Bowl was also a factor.”

“It shows that they are an up and coming team and they are only getting better. That’s something I really wanted to be a part of.”

Ciampanelli joins the Mounties after completing his high school career with Bellerose Bulldogs of the Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA). This past season, the Alberta defensive end/outside linebacker finished second in the Edmonton Carr Division in sacks and ranked in the top 10 for tackles.

The Mounties are looking forward to having Ciampanelli join the fold.

“Dean can play a variety of positions and can beat you a number of ways defensively,” commented Mounties Head Coach Kelly Jeffrey.  “He has an awesome motor and is a relentless pass rusher when he blitzes.”

“His versatility and speed will be a great addition to our program.”
